Virgin Voyages Menus: Scarlet Lady Where To Eat Breakfast 2023
I recently took Virgin's first cruise, the Scarlet Lady Where To Eat Breakfast 2023, with my husband.
I was fascinated by the buzz surrounding the food on board the ship . I consulted the menus of the various restaurants and booked before going up.
Particularly fascinated by the menu of the Pink Agave Mexican restaurant, I booked in a square. there for the first night. I had never seen Cochinita Pibil on a cruise and I had to eat it the first night.
I also booked Extra Virgin (Italian) and Razzle Dazzle (Veggie Forward). ), Test Kitchen (experimental) and The Wake (meat and seafood). Specialty restaurants are included in the price of your Virgin Voyages cruise. Guests can only eat once at each restaurant, which is not difficult since there are more specialty restaurants than nights on the cruise.
During the day, we have chose More Casual. select options, although some specialty restaurants also serve brunch or lunch. The informal dining area consists of several food stations. There are a few other dining options throughout the ship, including pizza and ice cream.
The Cuisine
Once we boarded the boat we headed to this place, the only one we found open for lunch. We were drawn to the sandwiches and headed to this aptly named "Hot Off the Press" station. We chose the sandwiches we wanted and were told we had to sit down and they would bring us a menu. So we dutifully found a table in the cozy back dining room and waited for a waiter to arrive with a menu. The menu lists all of the offerings at each The Galley restaurant. We chose the pastrami and rye sandwich, although other dishes from other eras also looked interesting. Let's keep them aside for another day.
From this first meeting with our server, we got the impression that the crew was happy to be back on board. Throughout the cruise we found a dedicated crew, enthusiastic and eager to serve the sailors, as Virgin Voyages calls its guests.
If we eat, we share We ordered a sandwich as expected and we split the side of fries we ordered. Soft drinks are included, but we ordered margaritas to celebrate our first time at Scarlet Lady.
Our sandwich was good, but the fries were fried. in a type of oil we didn't know, with an unpleasant taste. After sharing our sandwich, we accepted the trio of chocolates we had been offered. Two were good, but a third chocolate was inedible. The waiter told us it was the vegan version.
Pink agave
I traveled A Lot As we traveled through the Yucatan and sampled local foods along the way, we both really wanted to try Cochinita Pibil. I knew I would choose this dish because it is one of my favorite Mayan dishes.
The Test Kitchen
Since I'm much more culinaryly adventurous than my husband, I really wanted to try The Test Kitchen. I wasn't sure about the concept and mistakenly thought the menu items would be something the chefs would try that day. How wrong I was!
The room looks like a laboratory and the waiters wear lab coats. Green accents on chairs and benches add color to the space. There are different seating options: counters like in a restaurant, high chairs like in a bar, stools and standard tables with chairs. We sat on the chairs in the dining room and after a few dishes we asked to be moved because the chairs were very uncomfortable.
Extra Virgin
The Italian restaurant on board seemed to be one of the busiest, and The Wake was also in the running. After my experience at The Test Kitchen, I was really craving what I consider comfort food: a nice plate of pasta, and the homemade pasta served by Extra Virgin would have been a bonus.
I had my eye on a nice serving of hot lasagna and was a little disappointed that it wasn't on the menu. We both chose the Pappardelle al Ragù. To start, we had a charcuterie board, Wagyu beef carpaccio and romaine lettuce. Our waiter tried to convince us to order a large plate, but we refused.
